Each year as the yearbook staff shuffles through pictures
of you, we have a chance to see the student body in the
funniest, most memorable, and best times. With each
personality that we see in the pictures, we often wonder
where they might be in years to come. We let our
imaginations run wild and came up with some funny
careers that might be incredibly far fetched but, when
dealing with Minnechaug's finest, you never know. Take
a look and see what you think of our ideas.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

What are your career goals?

Senior Advisor's Message

*********************************************

Twenty-five, years ago, I too was a graduating senior. Those moments seem just like

yesterday and stuT bring a smile to titis weathered face. It would give me great pleasure to

know your high school memories do the same for you. So, if I couid choose one thing that

I Rope you would take with you into the future it would be the memories of the time you

have together now. May the memories firing you comfort and laughter to fill your heart

when you are feeling lost, and long jor the "old days". You have compfetetf one stage of

your life and you are now ready to pursue tfte ne?ct Though you may not know exactly

wfiat the future holds for you, I assure you that your experiences here at Minnechaug have

prepared you well for tfte fife tfiat awaits you. Tou have left an indelible mark on the

history of this schooi The class of 2000 will forever hold fond memories for ail tnose

who knew you while you were students here. When faculty and administration

conversations lead to memories of "the great classes of MRHS", your names and faces will

immediately come to mind. Your Jour years fiave included champions Kips in numerous

athletic programs. Artistically you have paintetf murals, produced plays, and performed

musicaf pieces of the highest caliber. Your studies have lead you to save the hemlock

forests in your community, dehate historical issues of your time and write /lawless prose

on a variety of topics while solving the great proofems posed 6y philosophers of today and

yesterday. You have sold magazines, colanders, T-shirts, tickets and" hooks to have a record

Breaking treasury. You are a member of a tight knit class which has donated time to wash

cars, make posters, serve Elk's Dinners, play flag joouSaii and start a scholarship fund in

memory of a classmate. The class council was a dynamic group that worked tirelessly for

you all four years. Be proud of all your accomplishments. Remember to follow your heart

and never surrender your dreams. I pray you wuT constantly work toward your goals 6y

believing in yourself and leading in a truthful life. Don't forget to take time to enjoy fife's

pleasures and keep your mind" open to new experiences. Please think before you act, but

don't forget the joys of spontaneity. Make your own decisions using good judgement Since

you share this universe with others, strive to keep peace and respect your fellow man.

Finally, look out for yourself and never stop growing. I will remcm6er you

Fondly, Nancy A. Dugre Class of 2000 Advisor

The FALCON has asked every other

class . . . Did you think we wouldn't

ask Freshmen ? While you can still do

something about it, you better look

forward ! Any classes, activities, or

sports interest you ? Can you see

yourself doing one of these things

every day for the rest of your life ?

Where do you see yourself in the
future?

What are your career goals?

A Message from the Superintendent

As your yearbook theme states, "The Time Is Now ..." It's

time to act, to make decisions about your future, to reflect on

your past experiences as a student, the lessons you learned at

Minnechaug Regional High School, and the time to clarify your

values and prioritize all those "things" that take up time in
your life. Now, as you move forward to the next stage in your

life, as you mature and develop into responsible adults,
remember the words of the German author, Goethe, who said,

"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of

things that matter the least." Use your time wisely and make

decisions and choices that allow you to become the person you

want to be. You will have more freedom than you have ever

experienced as you join the ranks of Minnechaug alumni and

head out into the world of college, or work, or the military. If

you can organize and execute your life around the things that

are most important to you, you will always find success and

happiness as you face the challenges of the future. I extend my

sincerest congratulations to you for your accomplishments,

dedication, and spirit at this special time in your lives.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Class of 2000 is the first Minnechaug graduating

class of the new millennium. Moving forward to the

year 2000 has caused much of mankind to consider

their place in time, to reflect on past years and the

events and people who affected the present state of our

world. However, it is in the future where you, the

members of the Class of 2000, will leave your mark,

will make your contributions, will become the people

who change our planet and our society. The greatest

accomplishments in sports, technology, medicine,

theater, writing, transportation, environment,

engineering, and all the other fields of endeavor too

many to mention here, can be realized by you through

your energies, your dedication, and your challenges.
We, the parents, teachers, and other adults in your life,

have attempted to prepare you for the next phase of

your life. The "time is now" to launch this next phase,

to build upon the foundation you have started. The

"time is now" to look forward with confidence and

excitement to a life of contribution and success.

Congratulations to the

Class of 2000.

FALCON
FOOTBALL

*T" he Minnechaug Falcon Football Teams were the defi-
' nition of grit and effort during the '99' football
season. Lead by Senior Captains Justin Campbell, Jay
Mandolesi, Kurt Brannigan, and Matt Livermore we be-
gan our season with some powerful wins against East
Longmeadow and South Hadley. We dedicated many
hours of time in the weight room and on the field to
improve our skills and grow as a team. Even though our
record wasn't as successful as we would liked it to have
been, we still had a great season of improvements and
challenges overcome. Matt Livermore is one example of an
impressive improvement. He earned an incredible 2,112
yards this season, gaining 411 yards for his team in one
game. Go Falcons!

fun and games ! Becoming part of the great pyramid or

precision work that demands hours of exacting practice.
And don't forget the Cheerleading at Minnechaug is an

BOYS
SOCCER

"T* he Minnechaug Boys Soccer Teams have had an out-
standing year ! Improving from last year's record, the
Varsity team posted an uncomparable record of 16-2. Led by
Captains Kevin Caster, Marcos Jimenez, and Nick Ziemba
the Falcons started off impressively. The talented under-
classmen pitched in toward the huge wins over perrenial
rivals Ludlow and Cathedral. The season continued with the
Falcons displaying wonderful teamwork, as well as determi-
nation on their way to the league finals. The Varsity defense
posted an unbelievable 13 shutouts, with the offense provid-
ing 52 goals to destroy their opponents wherever they went.
With both the JV and Freshmen teams having successful
seasons and displaying lots of potential, we know that the
future is in good hands.

GIRLS
SOCCER

"T" he Girl's Varsity Soccer Team started out with a good
outlook. Pre-season came, and the program looked
strong. With eight returning Seniors and seven returning
upperclassmen, it looked very promising. With some
stellar new additions to the team, we knew it was going to
be a great season. The final record of 10-7-2, with ties to
Ludlow and Longmeadow, our arch rivals, only began to
tell the story. One of our greatest achievements had to be
our 2-1 win over Cathedral, who had been unbeaten for
37 games prior to that. Both the JV and Freshmen had
impressive seasons. The JV ended 11-2-5 and the Fresh-
men finshed at 12-3-1. Keep working hard girls and the
future of Minnechaug Girl's Soccer can only be bright !

\ A / e had a great year. The whole team really has
stepped it up to a new level this season, working all

Conway and Sean Mahoney have really lead the way for us
this year, consistently playing their best, and setting the
pace for the rest of the team. Kate Polchlopek has really
upped her level of play this season also. She has been a
fierce competitor the whole season. We'll be ready next
year even though we are losing Ryan and Kate. We are
very confident that players like Matt Perry and Dave
Wilson will step up for the next season, along with Sean,
to head the team into another successful run.

*T" he Falcon Gymnastics Team has grown so much in the
past year! With much of last year's Senior talent leaving
there was a void that was soon filled by up and coming
veterans from the squad. Senior Christine Lohan and Junior
Elizabeth Buddington stepped forward to drive the team on
to a much improved record. Freshman newcomer Samantha
Peczka added skill and strength to make the team even
better, while established players Juniors Rachel Duffany and
Mary Harvey, Sophomores Ashley Stoddard and Amanda
Pascoe provided the team with stabiltity, power , and skill.
The team really felt the momentum with a win at the first

Kyi any records were tied and some were broken ! Anxiety is
hanging in the air, as the gun fires, dozens of runners
push and shove to take the lead on the narrow course, widing
through the trees behind Minnechaug. Weeks of running at
the crack of dawn, rain or shine, brought the Cross Country
Teams to victory after victory. The girl's team had many
strong runners like Molly Ketschek, who made a great
showing at the Western Mass Finals, and Katie Theoharides,
who constantly led the pack. The Boy's Cross Country ran
down opponent after opponent and kept Minnechaug's
reputation intact up and down the valley. Strong showings
against competent foes told the story of the hard work and
team support the boys maintained.

leadership of Co-Captains Seniors Andrea Garrity and

seemed to be endless practice and hard work, our dedica-
tion started to pay off with some fine showings leading up
to the finals. Amherst seemed to be our biggest rival, but
our building talent gave them a run for their money.
Toughened and ready, we fought our way to a second

a year where the team displayed unity and pride in making

"T - he Falcon Field Hockey Team was full of spirit and

focused on maintaining a positive attitude and continous
team play. This effort paid off when the team was
presented with the "Sportsmanship Award" by the
MIAA. We also welcomed two new coaches to our
squad, Jen Kinder and Meredith Dubay. These two
coaches brought a style to our team that resulted in
positive changes for everyone. With seven returning
Seniors, there was plenty of playing time for all, and we
went to every game ready for a battle.

and surpassed them. At Falcon Yearbook presstime we were
going into the Division I Western Mass. Tournament with a

skill and strength. Our record hardly reflects the true
spirit of our hard work, long hours of practice, serious-
ness of purpose, and whole-team dedication toward our
common "goal". (Make that goals! Lots of them!) We
finish the season with a strong 6 - 11- 1 record in the

great performances on the ice, and a more polished

*T" he Minnechaug Regional High School Girls and Boys
Swimming and Diving Teams displayed their deep
talent once again this year. The girls and boys pulled
together to make it another incredible season! With sup-
port from all members of the team, the swimmers ended
their already great season with the team of Tiffany
Zimmermann, Caitlin White, Joanna Lavoie, and Kelly
Schmidt combining to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1
minute, 43.27 seconds at the State Championships at
Springfield College. The points they gained helped us to
gain a fourth place finish as a team. We had many talented
Seniors on the teams but our continued success was also
due to the many talented underclassmen that rounded out
the team.

Another outstanding year!

\ A / restling at Minnechaug is hotter than ever! One look
at our team portrait below should tell you just what
kind to support and strength we can count on. Our team is
strong and huge and getting bigger and better every
season. Defending State Champion Drew Penna mauled
foe after foe (and would have captured the crown again if
the official had any knowledge of wrestling rules!) while
talented grappler Pat Rooney surprised no one with his rise
through the ranks in his weigh class. It is hard to believe
that Wrestling at Minnechaug was introduced as a new

we already have a dynasty that intimidates both the Valley
and the State.

The FALCON Yearbook Staff looks at

thousands of photos every year, but what

follows is by far, our favorite section. The

parents and friends of the Class of 2000 have

provided us with valuable support and the

next few incredible pages. So, once again, we

start with these relatively random, probably

partial, basically biased, and totally un-official

And the time to love.

The time to cherish

Every waking moment.

The time to start all over.

The time to hope,

The time to dream.

The time to be everything

You've always wanted to be.

The time to open your eyes,

And see. . .
